Give Everyone Equal Access to the Mario Cuomo / Tappan Zee Bridge

The cycling / walking path on the new Tappan Zee Bridge (officially the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge) is opened on June 15, 2020.

This exciting news is dampend by the fact that the State is closing the path each night from 10 pm to 6 am. And they're closing the path when it rains.

Keeping the path open 24/7 is a matter of liberty and justice for all

• The path opens opportunities for families who can't afford $10,000 per year for a (second) car
• A majority of local households own no cars or just one car *
• Poverty is a problem in the area *
• We have a significant Latino population *
• The bus is not a substitute — it doesn't run from 12 - 4 am
• Metro North serves Tarrytown 22 hours per day. The bike / train combination is a powerful mobility option.
• Bridges in NYC and Europe are open 24/7, during all weather, no problem
• Bike commuters are quiet and safe
• Paths boost property values
• Nyack area residents are the path's biggest beneficiaries — being able to bike over the beautiful Hudson River, getting exercise and fresh air while commuting to the train in Tarrytown, for free!
• Government's job is promoting liberty, not dictating when, how, and if people can travel
• Villages can't close the bridge roadway; they shouldn't be able to close the bridge bikeway
